In my experiments with mediums that best express the urgency and spectrum of cultural, financial and environmental complexities of the snow canon, I headed to Snow World to shoot a video essay style pilot for what would ultimately become a mockumentary set in the Italian and Swiss alps, during the 2026 Winter Olympics. The artifice becomes real when all our slopes are fake. I explored metaphors of thawing, freezing in the context of globally accelerated technical innovations. Who gets to be cold?At least we get to have the humour of monotony, a “cold” gaze upon a serious subject. In my proposed Winter Olympics film project, my main methodology would take the form of interviews with the attending elites and an investigative approach to the supply of (artificial) snow.
