(b. 2002, Cluj-Napoca , Romania) Like many others of this generation Cari Călinici has been shaped in thinking and in constant reference to the force of the WorldWideWeb. This has lead to a form of research and working at the intersection of the online with the offline preexisting forms of knowledge sharing. Călinici works in a manifold shape in an attempt to point the acidity and sometimes wackiness of technology as it comes in contact with more and more of the IRL. Călinici is a multimedia and installation artist driven by the implementation of technology in explorations of identity issues, the representation of the scientific (academic) world and the friction between the void space opened by postmodern pastiche and the lived realities of (art)consumption and production. It is crucial that Cari’s complicated admiration for technology is visible, whether it is by exposing the cables and guts of devices, or critically mediating art in the digital age. How can an artist foster interactions with an ever more technologically accelerated society?
