Proxy : noun; the authority to represent someone else; a relay, placeholder between two or more figures

time based installation and looping projection: PVA, PVC, steel, water,  spray paint, LED, slide projector and slides on film paper

My first experience of being in drag, my first experience of passing, was online. From my perspective, the experience of body dysphoria in an age of hyper identity plurality takes shape as a form of proxy-ism. Like all things online, we can always choose to be disingenuous. Change your name, fake a picture, change your language, pretend to be multiple people. By separating a sense of honesty from our identity, (be it an effect of hyper-individualism), it’s become very difficult to trust media and images especially. An image can mean what you think it doesn’t mean. When does the placeholder/proxy stop and where do we begin?

As it goes, the space of proxy-ism is of a mechanism of protection. As many softwares work under our employment to protect/hide/mask our true identity, our ‘valuable’ data, i wonder how far do we go in emulating (be it un or intentional) this behaviour in corporeal life.
